MILITARY DISCOUNTS FOR DISNEYLAND: What You Need To Know
My dad is a retired officer with the California National Guard. In 2006, he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and given three months to live. By the grace of God and amazing doctors at Stanford, he is still alive today after multiple surgeries and treatments. My dad still has stage 4 pancreatic cancer. If you are able to go to Disneyland with family, don’t pass it up. The memories we have made over the years on these trips are incredibly special to me and my kids.
Military Discounts for Disneyland: TICKETS
The military discount for Disneyland tickets is a fabulous deal! Through December, 2023, there are 4 different military ticket options available:
- 3-Day Military Promotional Park Hopper Ticket: $245 (regularly $420)
- 3-Day Military Promotional Park Hopper Ticket with Disney Genie+ Service: $320 (regularly $495)
- 4-Day Military Promotional Park Hopper Ticket: $280 (regularly $455)
- 4-Day Military Promotional Park Hopper Ticket with Disney Genie+ Service: $380 (regularly $555)
As you can see, the military discount is significant! Multiply that by 6 people, and you will save $1,050 on your trip to Disneyland! Please note, these tickets and prices are for Disneyland only. Disney World military discount promotional tickets are different.
How To Get The Tickets:
Disney does not sell the military discount tickets directly. According to their website, the only way to get a military discount at Disney is through a U.S. military base ticket office. This is where the tickets will need to be purchased. The qualifying military member or spouse will need to be the one to actually buy the tickets and will need to do so in person at a local base or depot. If you can’t make it in person, call your nearest ticketing base to see if they can Fed-Ex you the tickets at an additional cost.
Who Can Use The Tickets:
Anyone who is a family member or friend can use the park tickets as long as they are accompanied by the “Eligible Service Member” as Disney calls them. In a calendar year, 6 military promotional Disneyland tickets may be purchased by either the military member (active or retired) OR their spouse. Sorry, kids. Your dependent ID doesn’t work here. The six tickets are per family, not per family ID. The eligible service member must have a ticket. In other words, you can’t buy six tickets and hand them out to your friends. The military member is one of those six tickets and must accompany the rest of the group into the park on the first day of use.
Also note that these tickets may not be sold or donated. They are to be used by the eligible service member and his/her guest only.
How To Use the Tickets:
In order to activate and use the tickets, the eligible service member must be present and show their current military identification at the park entrance. You cannot use the military promotional tickets without the actual qualifying person with you. This person only needs to be with your group on the first day that the tickets are activated. After that, you are free to use your discounted Disneyland tickets just like you would any other ticket.
**As a reminder, don’t forget to upload your tickets in your My Disney Experience account and MAKE PARK RESERVATIONS IMMEDIATELY!**
Military Discounts for Disneyland: WHERE TO STAY
Although no specific military discount information is provided by Disney, all three Disneyland hotels do offer deeply discounted rooms for service members. You will need to call Disney directly for room quotes. I am sure that the time of year you are planning to go and which room type you would like to book will make a difference on the discount and price offered. The eligible service member will need to be the person on the hotel reservation and show valid military identification at check-in for the discounted rate to apply. There is no special hotel like Shades of Green in Disney World.
Almost all of the hotels in Anaheim offer a military discount. Although the discount will vary from hotel to hotel, the military rate is usually the lowest rate possible available among all the discounts. We have been able to stay in nicer hotels using my dad’s military discount than my husband and I could have afforded on our own. Not meaning to sound like a broken record, but the eligible service member must be with you, have their name on the reservation and show valid military identification.
No matter where you stay, whether on property or off, you should have a discount available. We like to use this discount for a better located hotel or room upgrade. We’ve stayed in multi bedroom suites with kitchens and spacious rooms with extra square footage. Don’t forget to ask for adjoining rooms if you are booking more than one room.
Military Discounts for Disneyland: WHAT TO ENJOY
Flag Retreat Ceremony:
At 4:30pm every day, Disneyland has a flag retreat ceremony. This is a beautiful tribute to our service members. Every branch of the military is represented along with the Armed Forces Salute. It is respectfully executed by members from each branch of service. You hear people talk about crying in Disneyland from being overwhelmed with the experience or touched by Disney magic. This is that moment for me.
Memories You Make:
Memories made with loved ones are always priceless. Disneyland is no exception. I love watching my parents just as much as my kids as they soak up the magical atmosphere. I will never forget the giant smile on my cancer-ridden dad’s face as we rode the Incredicoaster. My kids still talk about Opa’s 96% shooting accuracy on Toy Story Mania. My mom and daughter always take special time to shop, just the two of them. And we have many ornaments on our Christmas tree that Oma and Opa bought in the parks.
If you have a military family member, you know the sacrifices that they make for our freedom. But that sacrifice affects the whole family. In my dad’s case, he is retired. Getting to have this time with him that I didn’t always get when I was younger is something I will cherish forever.
You may be wondering about food and dining discounts. I wish I could share a bunch with you, but Disneyland does not currently offer discounts on any dining. That doesn’t mean you can’t find it. Some restaurants in Downtown Disney or the surrounding area may give military discounts, you just may to ask.
It can be confusing to find the information and discounts you are looking for. The Disneyland website will provide details for your military discounts for Disneyland, though the information takes some searching. Another helpful source is Steve Bell at militarydisneytips.com. If you are debating whether or not you should go to Disneyland with your favorite military loved one, just do it. You won’t regret it!
